I've been doing a lot of reading lately. In a recent editorial, a Russian immigrant who grew up in the Soviet Union was saying how spoiled he had become as a citizen of the United States. He grew up in a communist country that hardly had any food on the shelves of the grocery stores ... ever. His normal was one of limited access to the basics of food, clean water, heat and clothing.
And so it is that we find ourselves mad and irritated that we can't find toilet paper or hand sanitizer. We can't get on a plane to travel anywhere or go to a local restaurant to enjoy dinner out. Heck, we can't even go sit on the beach (except in Jacksonville).
This is a good time for all of us to reflect on what we do have. We live in the greatest country that has ever existed. We have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom to vote for our leaders and a country that continues to innovate for our future. Have we made some mistakes over time? We have. But I would argue we still live in the best country on the planet. Why is it that you see so many people from around the world want to come to America?
In this crazy time, let's count our blessings ... our family, our friends, our faith, our freedom, our company, and our ability to make a paycheck.
