Today we celebrate Founders
Day here at Williams Company! JJ Williams was born on March 26, 1883 in
Georgia. In 1920, JJ and his wife Lulabell decided to leave Georgia and stake
their claim in a tiny citrus town in Florida called Orlando. The population in
Orlando in 1920 was just under 10,000 people. From 1918 through 1920 over 1000
house were built in the Orlando. And that’s what brought JJ to Orlando, to
build houses. Most of you have seen the picture of JJ with his 2 young sons
Ralph and Randall in front of a partially built house on Amelia Street in 1923.
From these humble beginnings, almost 100
years ago, to our present day revenues that will exceed $200M this year, the
company has thrived on delivering incredible service to its clients. JJ’s sons
Ralph and Randall ran the company from 1946 until 1982 and then their sons lead
the company from 1982 until 2016. Our ESOP now represents the 4th
generation.
We are eternally grateful
that JJ and his wife made the move to Orlando in 1920 so that we may continue
his legacy as Central Florida’s premier builder!
