I was sitting in traffic last week and a car came up on my right from a side street, inching to get in front of my car. I graciously waved him in and of course expected to get a thank you wave. None came. So it got me thinking about how many people have lost the art of common courtesy.
Whenever I'm able, I almost always let someone in from a side street and when someone does the same for me, I always wave and smile. Both parties feel good about the small gesture of courtesy and we go on with our lives.
It also reminded me that I always enjoy being in a small town when I travel.
Everyone is friendly and smiling, and will always give you a thank you wave! The pace in small towns is slower. People seem to be enjoying themselves more, and you see more friendly faces.
In our fast paced environment, the congestion on 1-4, the long lines at lights, the overly aggressive drivers, remember some basic courtesy...and always a thank you wave when someone lets you in!
Cheers,
