I hope all of you read last week's TFTW. I wanted to focus on one item from that post. Admiral McRaven gave 10 points of advice to a recent graduating class at the University of Texas and I wanted to comments on item #3...measuring people by the size of their heart.

I have been here at Williams Company for over 25 years, and on a daily basis I am amazed at the size of this group's heart. The accomplishments of this group astound me constantly! Many times I wonder how we do some of the things we do. Our company expects a lot from the folks that work here. The hours are long, and the work is stressful. What we do is complicated. There are a lot of parts and pieces. And the margins aren't great either.

So for us as a group to do things like,

  • build the fastest high school ever for OCPS
  • get the highest possible rating on audits from Target
  • get signed up for a continuing contract for an unprecedented amount of time at USF
  • serve our community at Ronald McDonald House, Heart of America, Habitat for Humanity and Susan G. Komen
  • scatter our field teams hundreds of miles away from home
  • get up at 1:00 AM to pour concrete
  • remain profitable through the entire Great Recession
  • give a fellow teammate an encouraging word
  • truly care about the quality delivered to our clients
  • smile.....a lot
  • Never, ever give up
These items all speak to the heart. And I could go on and on. What this company may lack in expertise and size is more than offset with its unwavering commitment to get the job done! That speaks volumes about the size of your heart! Thanks for giving it your all every day!
