Eccelston School is nearing completion and our team was a part of a Community Meeting last week to give local residents some insight on the new school. Brad did a great job of showing where we have come from, and how we are going to finish.
During the question and answer session, an older gentleman, and local resident, said he was a former Williams Company employee and he wanted everyone in the audience to know that Williams Company was a first class contractor. Bennie Stark is his name and he was a laborer and messenger (his term). Bennie said when he saw the Williams Company sign go up at Eccelston, he told all his neighbors not to worry! He went on to say (the guy was a talker) that he worked with a young superintendent and was a real dynamo! I told him that superintendent was John Hammond and that he was still with us and still a ball of energy!
After the meeting I spoke to Bennie a bit more and he told me he was the guy who went to the office each week to get the paychecks and bring them back to the crew. I told him that must have made him an important guy. Bennie hesitated...reached into his pocked and pulled out a few coins, and said "Money is not important in this world...a man's word is." No truer words have ever been spoken.
Here is a guy who worked for Williams Company 20 years ago, retiring with us, and he still speaks highly of our company. I understand why...we still share the same values!
